Poll: What’s your favorite technology to develop apps for Nokia devices?
You have the idea for the next killer-app, so what’s next? Choosing the technology to create it!

Given that there’s not a technology that is universally better than others, we ask you to choose your favorite technology when it’s time to create. It could be for development speed, cross-compatibility, advanced features or anything else: just pick the best one for you!

Interesting to see Python on 3rd place after 52 votes. One vote is mine
Hopefully this will be recognized by Nokia/Symbian. I hope that they don’t forget to provide an easy to learn software development solution for the non-IT professional, hobbyist, spare time coder. Python on Symbian is an existing and suitable solution for this audience, but it needs some polishing (e.g. listbox scrolling bug on Symban^1/5th Ed).
From my point of view more intense support for Python on Symbian would make the app ecosystem even more richer and attract a lot of developers coding niche apps needed by a lot of specialities (e.g. medicine), that are not served by larger software developers, because the market is too small and thus the attainable revenue is too low. Remember the significance of OPL for the Psion ecosystem.
Providing an easy automated way to distribute the Python runtime and dependencies would lower the adaption threshold for app users. E.g. like the Smart Installer introduced for Qt recently.

Hi Martin,
thank you for your considerations. These results, even if very partial, surprise me as well, both for Python being 3rd (now 4th), above well established technologies like Java ME and Flash Lite, and for Flash Lite itself being last, even if it’s a technology that allows for rapid development, cross-compatibility and porting on different platforms.
I also did expect more votes for WRT, but probably some well known limitations within this technology still stop it from being more widely adopted.
Alessandro
WRT is NOT surprising. It’s crap. Even Nokia can’t make a decent app with it (see OVI store).
As for python, it really had the potential, but the utter lack of support from Nokia (fixing bugs and moving the runtime forward) virtually killed it for many developers. The python forum used to be alive and thriving but now are just a ghost town. I know that the Symbian foundation will take the runtime over eventually, but at the current pace it will be way too late to salvage that baby.
Just my two cents.
